is the US military vital for our country?

In the last 20 years theirs been only 3 or 4 years in which we were not at war, but why are we always fighting? One reason is because we can, we have a devastatingly powerful military.  When you have a ludicrous amount of planes, smart bombs, and cruise missiles, the whole world looks like a target. Another reason is that we have an all-volunteer force, by making military service be only the people that volunteer to do it, people feel less strongly apposed to it. People would be far more against random wars if it was the draft instead, if wall street bankers kids were forced into service then the random war wouldn't be a thing. I'm not recommending that we bring the draft back, I'm just pointing out that we probably wouldn't be in as many wars if it was still a thing.

fun bonus fact: Teddy Roosevelt was the last president to be openly pro war, he was once quoted saying “A just war is in the long run far better for a man’s soul than the most prosperous peace”
