GRAVITY

Gravity is about a woman who is lost in space. Her name is Dr Ryan Stone. She is a Mission Specialist on her first space shuttle mission aboard the Space Shuttle Explorer. She is accompanied by veteran astronaut Matt Kowalski, who is commanding his final expedition. While he was floating in space to service the Hubble Space Telescope, Ground Control in Houston warns the team about a Russian missile strike on a defunct satellite, which has caused a chain reaction forming a cloud of space debris. Ground control orders that the mission be aborted. Shortly after, communications with ground Control are lost, though the astronauts continue to transmit, hoping that the ground crew can still hear them. They try to make it to the international space station to get in an escape pod and return to earth. Kowalaski  cuts himself loose to try and save Ryan.  However, Ryan has never flown a escape pod and is not really an astronaut.  Matt leaves the action about halfway through the film (which sucks because he was my favorite) and Ryan is stuck in space not knowing how to do much, she has to figure it out with no room for error

i had trouble finding much more then these two scenes

I'm not going to ruin the ending just in case you decide to see this movie.

SUTTER ISLAND

In 1954, two U.S. Marshals, Edward "Teddy" Daniels and his new partner, Chuck Aule, travel to the Ashecliffe Hospital for the criminally insane on Shutter Island located in Boston Harbor, as part of an investigation into the disappearance of patient Rachel Solando, incarcerated for drowning her three children. Shortly after arrival, a storm prevents their return to the mainland for several days. Daniels finds the staff confrontational: the lead psychiatrist, Dr. John Cawley, refuses to hand over records of the hospital staff; Solando's doctor, Dr. Sheehan, had left on vacation after her disappearance, and they are barred from searching Ward C and told that the lighthouse on the island has already been searched. Th main character Teddy begins to get migraines and reoccurring dreams of his dead wife. By the way the ending is really disappointing but I'll get to that in a minute.

this is the trailer because i think that it summarized the film well

this is the ending that i did not like
the ending was disappointing at best the movies plot is great but the execution of the film by the director and the actors was terrible its was supposed to surprise me but it was obvious that's where they were going by the way the ending is that he is a patient at the mental hospital

King Lear at the Shakespeare Festival in Ashland Oregon 2013

King Lear is about three sinister sisters that inherit their fathers kingdom. One doesn't get any land and instead marries the king of France. She  still feels cheated by her father, so she leads the French army to take over England. The two sinister sisters don't want to deal with their father or the small army their father brought with him, so they flee to the Duke's house and hide there. My favorite part is the second act because some shit goes down when they jab out the Duke's eyes out and then they make him just straight leave. But he can't see so he is just wandering around blind because he knew that the French were coming, but he did not tell anybody- I wasn't 100% clear on why.

sadly I could not find a video but I was able to find a couple of photos from this year's production

this photo is from the first part but you already know that

Over all I liked King Lear, but it did go on for a while, so that was not great. Besides that, it was generally great.

"Prisoners" (rated R)

"Prisoners" is a film about two children who get kidnaped. The father of one child is looking for the man responsible for the kidnaping. When the police catch one man that they think is responsible, but can't prove anything, they let him go. The father is furious about the release of the suspect and takes it upon himself to prove this man guilty. The father kidnaps the supposed  kidnapper and begins to torture him. The police say that the suspect has the IQ of a 10 year old and doesn't know anything, but the father doesn't believe them and goes as far as necessary including waterboarding and locking the man in a small room with know light and barely enough room to sit.

here is a clip

How it ends is the man with an IQ of a ten year olds aunt who he lives with is the kidnapper and he was kidnapped and drugged. When the aunt kidnaps children she makes them do a series of mazes, and if the complete them the get to go free. But the catch is that the last one is impossible.

Brooklyn 99

brooklyn 99 is a new tv show staring Andy Samberg as Detective Jake Peralta and Stephanie Beatriz as his partner Detective Rosa Diaz. Terry Crews is Sergeant Terry Jeffords. I like Terry Crews and in this role he is funny because he's not a tough guy. His character used to be really fat and was called Terry Titties, now even his wife is embarrassed of his minivan, which gets a dick painted in episode 2.

There are not a lot of choices on YouTube yet, because this show is so new. The clip to see is Detective Jake chasing a Russian ham stealer through a deli.

The reason this show is funny is because it's both hilarious and clever, and it's a detective show, sort of. The stern gay captain wants Jake to take his job more seriously, but that's not gonna happen since there's not a lot of laughs there.

Prediction: They're gonna have an episode where Jake takes his job as seriously as the captain wants, but then he won't do as well, so the captain will accept his hi-jinx. Stay tuned.

STAR TREK INTO DARKNESS

cyrus manjarrez
9/11/13
This week's post is on Star Trek: Into Darkness. Overall, I thought this film was spectacular. Especially Zachary Quinto portraying Spock. Below are some scenes that I like:
Spock fights the new Kahn

I like Spock yelling "Khan!" but I could not find a shorter scene, so here's the best I could find.

The movie was good because it was a combination of action and actors I like. The Khan part was  a twist, because the original Khan had a Spanish accent, wore leather vest (when he wore a shirt at all) and had big feathered hair where this Khan was played by the actor who is Sherlock Holmes on the new BBC show Sherlock. In the old Star Trek movie about Khan Captain Kirk was the one who yelled "KHAN!" and Spock died, but in this one it was reversed. Plus there was a lot of fighting and explosions and it was pretty fun to watch it on the big screen. I recommned it as even old people like it too so it's a good movie to see with the whole family.

Here's the original Khan and Kirk. Notice Kirk's rage, and notice that sweater. I'd be mad too.

This weeks blog is on Heroes a TV series about superheroes and their adventures. In the beginning of the show they are just finding their powers, and learning how to use them. Below is a video of most of the characters and their powers.

Various people around the world discover evidence of real superpowers. Claire Bennet can instantly heal physical injuries to her own body. Isaac Mendez can precognitively paint future events. Hiro Nakamura is able to manipulate time, travel through it, and even teleport. Peter Petrelli has dreams of himself flying in Manhattan. Niki Sanders witnesses a more violent and aggressive personality of herself in mirrors. Mohinder Suresh tries to continue his recently deceased father's work by finding these people.

THE PRINCESS BRIDE

In a movie of classic lines, The Princess Bride stands out. Here's a favorite with Andre the Giant, who happens to have once been, "Unemployed, in Green-Land!"

As it happens, being unemployed in Greenland is harder than it sounds- the rate is only 4.2 %, as compared to USA at 9% (indexmundi).

Advice from a super genius: "The most famous is never go into a land war in asia but only slightly less well known is this  never go in against the sicilian when death is on the line."

Plot synopsis:   In a Renaissance-era world a young woman named Buttercup lives on a farm in the country of Florin. She likes bossing around the farm hand Westley, who she calls "farm boy." Farm Boy Wesley always answers, "As you wish"but what he really means is, "I love you." Wesley leaves to find his fortune so that they can marry. Buttercup later hears about Wesley being captured by the Dread Pirate Roberts, who is famous for killing everyone one the boats he attacks. Believing Wesley is dead, Buttercup sinks into depression, deciding that she will not love again. There is a law in her land that allows the prince to choose any single woman to be his bride, and she agrees to marry Prince Humperdinck, the heir to the throne of Florin, though she does not love him.
Eventually the Dread Pirate ROberts is unmasked, a fight with the evil Prince Humperdink happens and hilarity ensues. (info gathered from wikipedia)

This movie is a great combination of action, romance, comedy and madcap antics. The actos are hilarious and classic, and the director also directed Spinal Tap.

I hear they will make us read this for high school- but I don't know how the book can top the movie. If you are in the 4.2% of people who have not seen this, you must be unemployed, in Greenland- because this is a classic.
